Cups with metal straws recalled from Wawa stores after straw caused injuries, agency says | Lehigh Valley Regional News

A US agency is announcing a recall of drinking glasses with metal straws sold at Wawa stores in several states.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 60,000 of these cups are being recalled.

The agency says the metal straw inside the cup can cause cuts to the mouth and/or fingers, posing a risk of injury.

The plastic cups come in four styles: “The Mermaid” (pink/green), “Island Surf” (blue/yellow), “Sailor Breeze” (tan/orange) and “The Galaxy” (blue/pink). to the Commission.

The agency says the cups come with a tan lid. The mug is available in a 24 ounce size. Wawa is printed on the cups.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says consumers should immediately stop using the recalled metal straw included with the drinking cup and contact HALO for instructions on how to obtain a free replacement silicone straw after returning the metal straw can.

If consumers don't want to keep the cup either, they can return it with the metal straw and receive a refund in the form of a $15 gift card, the agency said.

According to the agency, the original cup and metal straw must be returned to HALO to receive the refund.

No proof of purchase (receipt) is required to receive a replacement or refund. HALO will provide a prepaid label for shipping the recalled units. Consumers should not return the recalled devices to Wawa stores, the agency said.

The agency said the company has received four reports of incidents that resulted in four cuts to the hand and mouth.

The products were sold in August 2024 at Wawa stores in Alabama, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland for approximately $13.
