D'Angelo Russell believes D'Angelo Russell has impressed this preseason

If you're a fan of wild D'Angelo Russell quotes, another one has just been added to his greatest hits.

During the Lakers shootaround on Thursday, Russell was asked who impressed him in training camp.

His answer? Him, of course.

Only Russell could say something that would make you cringe and laugh at the same time.

He could have given a home run answer to a softball question by simply hyping up Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht or patting Lakers coach JJ Redick on the shoulder while striking out again at Darvin Ham.

Russell could have even given the answer to “LeBron in Year 22” and we would have eaten it up like ice cream on a summer day.

Instead, he says that he and the energy in the room died.

What's also great about this response from Russell is that he was far from great.

While Redick may have mentioned that he was having a career year this season, that certainly wasn't the case in the preseason.

Russell was tough, averaging 9.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He also shot a disastrous 25% from 3-point range, a far cry from his average of 41% last season.

On that note, it might upset or frustrate fans to hear him still cracking jokes, but I love it.

Be D-Lo D-Lo; I mean, it's not like you can stop him anyway.

Even on media day he came with the same grit and energy; As he entered the room, he said, “Surprise, surprise,” a reference to how many thought he would be gone in the summer.

Instead of parting ways with the Lakers, Russell — like your best friend's significant other you can't stand — is here to stay.

Sign me up for another year of Russell, not like I have a choice.

The roller coaster he sends us on is fun and exciting.

Sure, like a ride at Six Flags, there's a long wait for a quick thrill, but when that moment comes, it feels like it was worth it.

A new season is finally here and I don't know if Russell will be a Laker at the end or how good or bad it will be, but one thing I'm sure of is it won't be boring.
