Detroit Lions' best trade offer for Maxx Crosby

Detroit Lions' best trade offer for Maxx Crosby

The Detroit Lions have a clear need on the defensive line after the unexpected injury to star defender Aidan Hutchinson.

With a Defensive Player of the Year candidate likely out for the remainder of the season, it will be difficult for Detroit to find a player who can contribute in the same way as Hutchinson. Because of this, many pundits and fans are calling for the team to trade for a defenseman of similar caliber.

One player who has local ties who would fit this mold is Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Crosby, who played collegiately at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, is a logical fit from that perspective and has the ability to make a big difference.

With the Raiders off to a 2-4 start and Crosby making cryptic comments suggesting he's unhappy with the team's situation, the Lions could step in and use the talented player to bolster their stymied pass rush.

The cost wouldn't be small, as players in Crosby's position are in high demand. Crosby also has two more seasons of control over the team as he is under contract through 2026. Additionally, Raiders owner Mark Davis has stated that the team is not interested in a deal with him.

As a result, the Lions would have to make an offer that the Raiders simply can't refuse. Here's our take it or leave it trade proposal to bring Crosby to Detroit.

The Lions get: DE Maxx Crosby, 2025 third-round pick.
Raiders receive: 2025 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick, 2025 fourth-round pick, QB Hendon Hooker.

As noted, asking Crosby would come at a significant cost. Here the Lions are forced to give up their first-round pick for the next two seasons as well as backup quarterback Hendon Hooker.

In his second NFL season, Hooker made his NFL regular season debut in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys. He also demonstrated his skills in the preseason by playing in all three games and completing 29 of 44 passes for 300 yards and a touchdown.

While Hooker has great potential, the Lions signed Jared Goff to a four-year contract extension in the offseason. Therefore, if Hooker has a future as an NFL starter, it will likely lie elsewhere. Since he is unproven and has a lot of potential, the Lions could capitalize on that value.

There is quarterback uncertainty for the Raiders as neither Gardner Minshew nor Aidan O'Connell look like the quarterbacks of the future. Acquiring Hooker would be beneficial for the Raiders as they look for their long-term passer under coach Antonio Pierce.

With general manager Brad Holmes having a lot of success in the draft, it would be difficult to lose that much capital. However, as the Lions look to make up for an open Super Bowl window, that would be a cost of doing business in the NFL.

Here's an example of the online reaction to a suggestion to include Hooker in a Crosby trade.
