DNC will write “Vote Kamala” about Sunday’s Raiders-Steelers game

Democrats will increase their football focus on Sunday when the Democratic National Committee plans to spread messages about four NFL games in battleground states, the party told NBC News.

Week 6 of the NFL schedule has a special feature in which three matchups take place with teams from the battleground states: the Green Bay Packers host the Arizona Cardinals, the Carolina Panthers host the Atlanta Falcons and the Las Vegas Raiders host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The DNC will write “Vote Kamala” in the sky above Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the afternoon game between the Steelers and Raiders. In Green Bay and Charlotte, the DNC will fly a plane over Lambeau Field and Bank of America Stadium, respectively, with banners reading “Sack Trump's Project 2025!” Vote for Kamala!” during the Eagles' game against the Cleveland Browns The group also flew a plane over Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia while reading, “Go Birds! Sack Project 2025. Vote for Kamala.”

Much of the messaging revolves around Project 2025, the conservative transition plan and policy blueprint that former President Donald Trump disavowed amid a barrage of Democratic attacks against it. Last month's NBC News poll showed it is overwhelmingly unpopular with the electorate.

“It’s NFL Sunday and fans in the battlefields are ready to reject Donald Trump’s Project 2025 once and for all,” DNC deputy communications director Abhi Rahman said in a statement.

Democrats have paid more attention to football this cycle, particularly as they have weighed in on Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and his history as a high school football coach. Harris' campaign has also spent heavily on advertising at college and professional football games and late last month unveiled its “Athletes for Harris” coalition, which included endorsements from 15 NFL Hall of Famers.

Trump also doesn't shy away from football, appearing at the Alabama-Georgia game last month, sharing a photo with members of the Las Vegas Raiders and releasing a digital ad featuring former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher. The former president has flooded the airwaves during football games in recent weeks with ads questioning Harris' past support for taxpayer-funded gender-affirming treatments.

The DNC has already flown banners at baseball games. A similar flyover took place on Wednesday before the Detroit Tigers' playoff game against the Cleveland Guardians. In September, the DNC raised a banner over a Philadelphia Phillies game.
