Dodgers manager Dave Roberts invites Yankees legends to NL pennant party

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez might want to pretend they misunderstood Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Sunday night.

As the Dodgers manager celebrated his National League pennant with the “MLB on FOX” crew watching the celebrations in the clubhouse from their post-game set on the field, Jeter asked Roberts if he was part of winning the National -League pennants would be invited to party.

“Yes. There will be some high-end cigars, some premium Bordeaux cigars. You're all invited,” Roberts said with a laugh to Jeter, Rodriguez, David Ortiz and host Matt Vasgersian.

Sure, the banter was fun. But only two people – Vasgersian and Ortiz, the Red Sox legend – couldn't miss the party tonight and remained in the good graces of their fan base.

The Dodgers' World Series opponent is the New York Yankees, where Derek Jeter built his Hall of Fame career and Rodriguez struggled for 12 seasons. You certainly know better than to be seen at a party like this!

Los Angeles ended the Mets' magical season with a 10-5 victory in Game 6 of the NL Championship. The Mets were 22-33 in the regular season and are just two games away from reaching the World Series.

Starting Friday, the Yankees will play in their first World Series since 2009, while the Dodgers will return for the first time since 2020, when they beat the Tampa Bay Rays during the COVID-shortened season.

“It’s going to be a great World Series,” Roberts said on the post-game show. “This is what the baseball world wanted.”
