The Los Angeles Dodgers are headed to the World Series and pitcher Michael Kopech helped them get there.

While Kopech is normally a relief pitcher, he was allowed to start Game 6 of the NLCS for the Dodgers.

“Michael Kopech's last start was September 20, 2023. He lost his starting job in spring training with the Chicago White Sox and has been exclusively a reliever this season,” USA Today's Bob Nightengale shared on X. “His longest appearance is two innings” this year. He’ll start for the Dodgers in Game 6 today against the Mets.”

Kopech leaned on his faith before the star. He spoke in more detail about his faith at the Dodgers' “Faith and Family” celebration, “a special event dedicated to showcasing how faith plays a central role in their lives,” the Dodgers Beat reported.

“It’s a very unfulfilling game,” the pitcher said as he discussed the ups and downs of baseball. “There is no consistency and that made me realize I needed something deeper.”

When he drifted away from God, his wife helped bring him back. He thought about how he resembled the prodigal son in the Bible.

“I think most of us can identify with the younger son in this story,” Kopech said.

“I think I lived a life striving to be wanted. Living a life at this level of idolatry,” he added in an interview with CHGO. “It's stressful to do that to yourself because you shouldn't live like that. And I really believe that now.”

“I think there's a sense of peace within me knowing that as big as the stage is, it's not nearly as big as the biggest one,” he continued. “At a certain point in my life it felt like the biggest stage. It takes a lot of effort for me to realize that something else is in control and someone else is in control. There’s a lot of peace in that.”
