Eagles News: Lane Johnson says players pushed for changes on offense

Let's get to it Philadelphia Eagles Left…

Lane Johnson explains how player pressure helped transform Eagles' offense – NBCSP
The Eagles' offense has found more stable footing in the three games since an early bye week. And some experienced players are at least partially responsible for this. Right tackle Lane Johnson explained Friday afternoon that he and other veteran members of the Eagles' offensive line spoke up in offensive meetings during and shortly after the bye week to push for more runs and play-action passes. “It was really an offensive-led movement,” Johnson said. “We knew we had to make some adjustments. Some of the guys, some of the executives, veterans, on the O-line, we had a lot of conversations and help with that. We just want the offense to be the best version of itself, win some games and hopefully get some points in the first quarter.” Johnson, along with Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson, have been vocal in offensive meetings about finding a new formula, to get the offensive rolling better.

Eagles-Jaguars game preview: 5 questions and answers with the enemy – BGN
3 – The Jags are allowing the highest passer rating in the NFL this season. What contributed to their defensive problems? One play is about pass rush and the next is about pass coverage. The Jaguars have a decent run defense, but every time the opposing passer falls behind, there is a risk that someone will make a mistake. Jacksonville doesn't have enough depth up front or back to play man coverage as often as they do. Security was poor and the Arik Armstead at EDGE experiment was miserable. Still, the Jaguars absolutely do not have the worst defense in football. Again, the blame lies with the coaching. Defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen needs to do something, something different this week – they rank 32nd in blitz rate this year (?!) – otherwise Jalen Hurts could have the best game of his career.

5 questions for BGN: What we learned about the Eagles – Big Cat Country
As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9, we sat down with Bleeding Green Nation's Brandon Lee Gowton to learn more about the opposing team.

Week 9 NFL Predictions, Fantasy Sleepers, Upset Picks, Buzz – ESPN+
Bowen: Don't be surprised if… AJ Brown scores over 100 yards vs. Jaguars. Brown has surpassed 100 yards receiving in two of his four games this season and is averaging 19.4 yards per catch. That works against the Jaguars' defense, which allows the second-most passing yards per game (271.1). I see Brown getting going early after a deep ball from Jalen Hurts.

Fred Johnson of the Eagles hit rock bottom once. Here’s how his confidence helped him fit in – The Athletic
“The mind is your greatest friend or your greatest enemy,” he says. Johnson can talk about it now. He can ponder the once weighty topic of old insecurity as casually as if he were tossing the water bottle he just sank into the trash can in the middle of the locker room. (“I usually sit here and try to shoot them,” he says.) It was often hard to remember that the job was also a game — especially after beating him down. Gratitude for a training spot? Try disappointment and aimless anger. Johnson is “angry with everyone and anyone.” That was “the lowest point”. How could the Eagles use him? Their O-line continued to steamroll defenses en route to Super Bowl LVII. So why did position coach Jeff Stoutland always stand in front of Johnson in practice, he wondered, “coaching me like I was a starter”? Johnson “was tired of it.” He expressed himself as someone who saw harsh coaching as pointless abuse. Please stop. “I was so persistent,” Johnson said earlier this year. “I didn’t want to listen to anyone, especially Stout. And Stout just said, “I won't let you down.” I won't give up on you.' And that’s just something I appreciate him the most for because I was on my way out of the league.”

Eagles: Jalen Hurt's contract won't stop him from golfing – PFT
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had the opportunity to play golf with Barack Obama earlier this week. Hurts said that Hurts did not play while he was present at the round with Obama, owner Jeffrey Lurie and running back Saquon Barkley – because his contract prevents him from golfing. As it turns out, Hurts' contract does not contain a no-golfing clause. Via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the team said that Hurts was simply complying with a verbal request from Lurie, who did not want his team's franchise quarterback to become obsessed with golf.

Meet Christian Parker, the 32-year-old secondary coach behind the Eagles' revamped cornerback room – Inquirer
In the fleeting moments between Eagles practices, Quinyon Mitchell has developed a meaningful ritual. While the team takes a break for special teams drills, the rookie first-round cornerback heads to an unoccupied field, finds his coaching position and continues the collective effort to advance his development as quickly as possible. Christian Parker, the Eagles' defensive coach and passing game coordinator, faces Mitchell and sometimes portrays the wide receiver he faces most often. He's the 32-year-old, Jordan-wearing, watch-collecting assistant coach behind the Eagles' resurgent secondary and the one who initially surprised Mitchell when he insisted they don't waste time on the practice field. “That’s what I’ve always believed,” Parker told The Inquirer. “When we're out on the pitch we don't have that much time, so we might as well maximize it. It's not about high-speed training, but mainly about training the eyes, feet and hands and technical development in all of these things. He has now gotten used to the routine. At first he might have thought it was a one-time thing, but we do it every day.”

From dreams to reality: LeSean McCoy reflects on Eagles Hall of Fame induction – PE.com
The Eagles made that dream a reality with the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. McCoy rushed for 637 yards in his rookie season. At the time, it broke the franchise rookie rushing yards record and now ranks second in team history. “I was super excited; I wanted to be an eagle. The funny thing is that my hometown was maybe an hour and 20 minutes away from the stadium. “I briefly thought about being picked by this team – I stayed home,” McCoy said in an exclusive interview with Eagles Insider Dave Spadaro. “I remember it like yesterday. We had a draft party with my family and friends and I remember seeing Andy Reid (Eagles head coach 1999-2012) and Howie Roseman, Brett Veach (Eagles player personnel and assistant head coach, 2007-12). and everyone called me and I remember saying, 'Hey guys, we're going to Philly,' and everyone just erupted with joy.”

5 NFL MVP candidates, ranked by who should win in 2024 – SB Nation
5. Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders. The last rookie to win MVP was Jim Brown in 1957, but in a year where most superstar veterans are having bad years, Daniels could seriously get some votes. He got the resurgent Washington Commanders off to a hot start while, like the leader on this list, showing electric play with his arms and legs. Daniels has only thrown seven touchdowns this year, but his underlying advanced stats are much more impressive. He ranks sixth in success rate, and while EPA is a team metric, he ranks second in adjusted EPA per game. He's electrified the NFL with the Commanders where they should start this season, and if he keeps it up, we'll see his name on some MVP ballots. Honorable Mention: Saquon Barkley, RB, Philadelphia Eagles, Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs, Penei Sewell, OT, Detroit Lions, Tristan Wirfs, OT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Commanders vs. Giants Friday Injury Report: One offensive lineman is out for Sunday's game – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders held their final full practice today before their Week 9 game against the New York Giants. Cornelius Lucas suffered an ankle injury in the game against the Bears and is the only player out for the game. Rookie LT Brandon Coleman has cleared concussion protocol and will be given the full-time starter and no rotating drives with the veteran lineman in his first game. Washington only has one player listed as questionable. RB Brian Robinson was limited last week with a knee injury and missed one game. He has been limited all week due to a hamstring injury and will likely face limited action again when he plays on Sunday. Washington didn't produce a running back last week, and Austin Ekeler took most of the snaps.

Cowboys Point/Counterpoint: Cowboys May Be Nearing the Point of No Return – Blogging The Boys
Things aren't going great in Dallas, to say the least. Another loss to the 49ers has arguably put the team at its lowest point of the Mike McCarthy era, and the next chance to right things comes on the road against a Falcons team that has won four of its last five and Appears to be forming on the way to half time. As for the situation in Dallas, the likelihood of a dramatic turnaround is pretty slim. Their next four opponents have a combined record of 24-9, with two of them being division opponents. The Cowboys are on a path that may see them out of the NFC East race by Thanksgiving, and it already feels like morale can't sink any further. Are they really approaching the point of no return, or are we being a bit overly dramatic? Our own Tom Ryle and David Howman have different views on the doomsday machine America's Team.

Poll Results: Giants Should Sell at Trade Deadline – Big Blue View
We are halfway through the 2024 season and the New York Giants are currently 2-6. Unless there is a notable turnaround, it is very unlikely that the Giants will make the postseason or do anything more than tread water for the rest of the year. With that in mind, we asked the Big Blue View community whether the Giants should be sellers, buyers, or patrons at the upcoming trade deadline. Giants fans voted overwhelmingly to sell him at the trade deadline in exchange for draft capital.
