Eagles Star WR Surprise DNP ahead of Week 9 matchup against Jaguars

The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a 5-2 start in Week 9. On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars, led by Doug Pederson, will march into Lincoln Financial Field. They're 2-6 and on the verge of a full-blown disaster.

The Eagles are looking to extend their winning streak to four games and are on a roll. As they prepare for this cross-conference event, the injury report was released on Friday. DeVonta Smith showed up and was absent from Friday's meeting.

According to Eliot Shorr-Parks, Smith did not practice for personal reasons. Since it wasn't an injury, his status for Sunday is probably clear.

Since Smith was not on the injury report all week, there is no reason for Eagles fans to worry. The Alabama product has been a reliable playmaker for the Eagles this season. He has 31 receptions for 386 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. The 25-year-old has over 60 receiving yards in five games this year.

The Eagles' aerial attack has a chance to dominate as Jacksonville ranks 29th in pass defense (382.1). This is music to the ears of Philadelphia fans as the team has scored 28+ goals in consecutive games.

Since coming off the break in Week 5, the team has been playing with a different kind of energy. That's what they needed and seemed to have found a nice groove. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Eagles are the 7.5-point favorite heading into Week 9.

Watch for them to act aggressively and lean on Smith like they normally do.
