Early voting begins Saturday in NYS: Here's how, when and where to vote on LI

ALBANY – Registered voters will have several options to cast their ballots in the general election, starting as early as Saturday and running through the traditional Nov. 5 Election Day.

The election includes races for president, vice president, Congress, state Senate, state Assembly and judgeships.

Voting options

Voters can vote by:

• Postal voting.
• Early voting by mail
• Early voting at polling stations
• Go to the polls on November 5th, the traditional election day.

Where can you vote?

The State Board of Elections has an online portal where registered voters can search for early voting sites. By clicking on an early voting site, the portal will display the days and times each early voting polling location is open for early voting. The portal also provides a voter's assigned polling place page for November 5th. The state portal is located at https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/ and can be used to see if a voter is registered.

• Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m
• Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m
• Monday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m
• Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the county elections board website open until 8 p.m
• Wednesday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., with the county elections board website reopening until 8 p.m
• Thursday, Oct. 31, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m
• Friday, November 1st, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m
• Saturday, November 2nd, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

Early Voting Locations in Nassau County:

A Nassau County voter may vote at any early voting location, which may not include the voter's traditional polling place. Early voting sites are available on the County Board of Elections website at https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/566/Board-of-Elections or through the state online portal.

A Suffolk County voter can vote at any location. Early voting websites can be accessed through the state's online portal.

Mail-in ballots

Any registered voter may request an absentee ballot for any reason by:

• Download an early absentee voting application at ballotapplication.elections.ny.gov/home/earlymail.
• Visit your local election committee.
• Designating another person to personally deliver the application to their local election board and receive a ballot.

A postal application for a postal vote must be received by the local election board no later than 10 days before election day. New Yorkers can submit an absentee ballot application in person to the election committees no later than November 4th.

Postal voting

An absentee ballot can be used if a voter is outside of their county or district on Election Day.

A New Yorker can request an absentee ballot through the state's online portal at ballotapplication.elections.ny.gov/home/absentee

An application for a postal vote must be received by the local electoral board no later than 10 days before the election. Applications can be submitted in person to your local election board no later than November 4th, one day before the election.

A postal vote can be cast by:

• Send it postmarked no later than November 5th. The ballot must be received by the local election board by November 12th at the latest.
• Submit your ballot to the local election board no later than November 5th at 9 p.m.
• Cast it at an early voting site between October 26th and November 3rd.
• Bring it to any polling place in the precinct by November 5th at 9 p.m.

Registration deadline for voting

Applications to register to vote by mail must be received by the local board of elections no later than Saturday, October 26th in order for the applicant to be eligible to vote in the November 5th election.

The deadline for personal registration also ends on Saturday. Applications may be submitted in person to any state agency involved in the National Voter Registration Act, including the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

How to register to vote

To register in the online voter registration portal (my.ny.gov/LoginV4/login.xhtml), prospective voters must be a NY state resident. Government ID account. If the New Yorker had used a NY. If you have a Government ID account for business with a government agency, the same credentials and access rights may be used to access the portal. Others need to create an account.

Prospective voters can sign a New York State voter registration form and either submit it online or print it and deliver it in person to the local board of elections or mail it by Saturday. The voter registration form is available in English and Spanish at Elections.ny.gov/voter-registration-process.
