El Paso County Election Day 2024 Guide: Dates, Candidates

The 2024 general election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th.

Across the country, voters will engage in a presidential contest, while in El Paso, voters will vote in several high-profile local races, from sheriff and district attorney to mayor and several El Paso City Council seats.

Here are the key matchups and a few things you should know in the final days before the election:

What races are on the program this year?

Here's a selection of the key races on the ballot this year in El Paso and across the state.

US President: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz (D), Donald Trump and JD Vance (R)

US Senate: US Representative Colin Allred (D), US Senator Ted Cruz (R)

US House of Representatives: US Representatives Veronica Escobar (D), Irene Armendariz-Jackson (R)

When does early voting take place in El Paso?

Early voting for the Texas general election will take place Monday, October 21st through Friday, November 1st.

When is Election Day 2024?

Election Day 2024 is Tuesday, November 5th. Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m

How do I receive a ballot in the mail?

The last day to request an absentee ballot is Friday, October 25th.

The deadline to return a ballot by mail is Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, unless foreign or military voter deadlines apply.

Who can vote by postal vote?

You are eligible to vote by mail in Texas if you are a registered voter who:

  1. 65 years or older
  2. Have a qualifying disability
  3. Expected delivery within three weeks before or after Election Day
  4. Outside the county on Election Day and during early voting periods
  5. Imprisonment or involuntary civil commitment

How do I receive a mail-in ballot?

To vote by mail, you must complete and submit an absentee ballot application.

For the 2024 general election, the deadline to submit an absentee ballot application is Friday, October 25, before the end of regular business hours at the Early Voting Clerk's Office. Applications by post must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the application deadline (no postmark).

If you submit a letter to vote by mail, the letter must include the following:

  1. Your name and address where you are registered to vote in El Paso County
  2. The address to which the ballot should be sent
  3. The election date and the election name for which you are requesting a vote
  4. One reason why you are entitled to vote by post. To vote early because you expect to live outside the county, your application must include the out-of-county address where you would like your ballot to be mailed
  5. Your signature or the signature of a witness if you cannot sign

Where do I send my request?

If you email or fax this form to the early voting clerk, you must also send the original paper copy to the clerk no later than the fourth business day after the day the clerk receives your email or fax send for early voting. Original signatures are required.

Voters with disabilities

El Paso County makes accommodations for voters with disabilities. Each polling location will have an ADA-compliant voting system and offer audio voting, particularly for voters with visual or reading disabilities.

Voters are eligible for assistance if they:

  1. Can't read or write, or
  2. Have a physical disability that makes it impossible for them to read or mark the ballot.

Voters can be supported by:

  1. Any person elected by the voter who is not an election official;
  2. Two poll workers on election day; or
  3. A poll worker during early voting.

Voters may not be supported by:

  1. your employer;
  2. A representative of your employer; or
  3. An official or representative of their union.

It is illegal for a person supporting the voter to:

  1. Try to influence the voter
  2. Mark the voter's ballot differently than requested or
  3. Tell everyone how the voter voted.

Priority for voters with disabilities

Priority will be given to people with a mobility problem that significantly affects their ability to get around. – A person assisting a person with a mobility problem may also be given priority in the voting order. – Disabilities and conditions that may qualify you for the elective order include: paralysis, lung disease, use of portable oxygen, heart failure, severe limitation of walking ability. Voters who wish to be given priority in the voting order may notify any poll worker. The presiding election judge presents the voter and, if necessary, his election assistant.

Curbside voting

If a voter is physically unable to enter the polling place, they can request that a poll worker at the entrance bring a voting machine to their car. All curbside voters are afforded the same privacy as voters in the voting booth.

If the voter is also entitled to voter assistance in marking his or her ballot paper: – Two poll workers can assist the voter or – The voter can be assisted by a person of their choice.

A curbside voting area will be set up at each polling station. A voter who wishes to vote curbside should call or text to request assistance. The phone number will be displayed on a sign in the designated location.
