Election jokes, Heidi Gardner parodies Reba McEntire

This week’s “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live was packed with election material ahead of Election Day, including hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che trading jokes, as well as an appearance by Heidi Gardner, who parodied country star Reba McEntire as a celebrity who evades political support.

Jost started with a dig: “Next week the American people will decide whether the next president will be Kamala Harris or whether everyone will be there.” SNL is checked.”

Then it transitioned to the various, for lack of a better word, presidential candidate Donald Trump. interesting Decisions at last-minute election rallies and media appearances, including parading with his name on a garbage truck (and not opening the door handle so he almost fell), applying a fake tan, and imitating a blow job on a microphone stand. At this point, Che spoke at Trump's much-discussed rally at Madison Square Garden.

“Speakers insulted minority groups, used Nazi rhetoric and suggested slaughtering Democrats, but this lady (referencing a photo of Harris) laughed strangely, so I still can't decide,” Che quipped.

“A comedian at Trump's rally referred to Puerto Rico as a 'floating island of trash,' and as someone who proudly grew up on a real island of trash, I find that offensive,” Jost added, referring to Staten Island.

The segment was then introduced SNL Heavy hitter Gardner in full McEntire getup. When asked by Jost who she's voting for, she said, “Call me Shawn Mendes because I'm still thinking about it,” referring to the singer-songwriter's recent comments regarding speculation surrounding his sexuality.

As the play continued, Gardner increased her wild gesticulation, rising and rocking from her chair. “We were Methodist atheists. Mom was a Republican and Dad was Pennywise – I'm a redhead, aren't I?” She began, adding, “Mom worked 59 jobs just to keep us in school and Dad only had the one job, which was feeding kids “My mom only weighed 75 pounds and 67 of them were breasts.”

Gardner's chaotic cosplay ended with her voting “online” by entering her Social Security number, credit card information and a picture of “your redheads” while pantomiming a nude photo.

Closing out “Weekend Update,” Marcello Hernandez and Jane Wickline stole the show, playing a “couple you can’t believe are together.” Hernandez played a sassy himbo guy in “Grant,” while Wickline portrayed a quiet, bookish Barnard student pursuing her master's degree in “18th Century Cemeteries.” With both roles having just the right comedic timing, Hernandez's hilarious interruptions meshed well with Wickline's quiet poetry.
