Eminem announces he is becoming a grandfather in a new music video

Eminem is going to be a grandfather!

The rapper's daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers, posted a picture of herself holding a sonogram and hugging her husband with the caption, “Mom and dad expected in 2025.”

Her announcement comes just hours after her father hinted at his impending grandfather status in his new music video “Temporary.” In one of the scenes, Eminem and Mathers can be seen on a porch.

In the clip, Mathers approaches her father and gives him a jersey that says “Grandpa” and the number 1 on the back. Other scenes in the video for the song dedicated to Mathers show a sonogram.

“Temporary” is largely an ode to Mathers, whom the rapper welcomed with ex-wife Kim Scott in 1995. He and Scott had a family of three children, as Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, his adopted then-niece Alaina and Scott's daughter Stevie.

The song was released in July before the official music video, consisting of old home videos of Eminem and Hailie Jade Mathers, premiered on October 3rd.

The text consists of a series of wishes for his daughter when he is “away”. In the second verse, he raps, “Yeah, so Hailie Jade, I wrote you this song/To help you deal with life now that I'm gone/How should I start?” I just want to say/ Take care of Alaina, Stevie and Uncle Nate/ And, sweetie, be strong, I know I've been your rock.

As he says, “It's okay for you to let me go” during the music video, scenes of Mathers in a white dress on her wedding day flash on the screen. The rapper hugs his daughter at the altar and later father and daughter dance together, Eminem's head resting on Mathers' shoulder.

Mathers married her long-term partner Evan McClintock in May after getting engaged in February 2023.

Eminem's latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” features another song about fatherhood. The music video for the song, titled “Somebody Save Me,” features old clips of Eminem with all three of his then-young daughters.

Mathers opened up about listening to the album on her “Just a Little Shady” podcast in August.

“I audibly sobbed,” Mathers said. “I think for both songs, but especially for 'Temporary'.”
