England vs Greece LIVE: Nations League results and updates as Palmer and Bellingham both start

Carsley says England doesn't give preference to players from big clubs

England host Greece in the Nations League as both teams look to remain unbeaten in this top-flight clash at Wembley Stadium.

Lee Carsley's reign got off to a perfect start with wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September internationals. Harry Kane scored twice against the latter in his 100th appearance for the national team but is doubtful for this game after training outside the squad earlier in the week.

England have also been boosted by the returns of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, which will have the manager thinking about how they all fit into the lineup.

Greece also won both Nations League games against the same opponent, but are better than the Three Lions with five goals in these two games. This game represents the biggest test of the Carsley era so far, but should England pull it off they would be favorites to win promotion back to League A.

England 0-0 Greece

Jordan Pickford is having a nightmare. First he decides to leave his penalty area to take control of the ball and then takes too long to decide what to do with it.

He passes the ball to his opponents who then hurl the ball towards goal and Pickford's blushes are spared but Levi Colwill clears the ball off the line!

After the resulting corner, Pickford decides to go get the ball. He misses the ball and the ball is poked to Konstantinos Mavropanos who hammers it into the net, causing the offside flag to go up!

England 0-0 Greece

“For a game that may not be the most significant, there is some debate here at Wembley about whether Lee Carsley’s lineup is the most revolutionary England have ever had.”

“It’s certainly a historical landmark.

“It could be the first time England start a game without a traditional striker or number nine. In the context of modern football this may not be so remarkable, but for the national team it is. England simply always had a nine, and not just tactically.

“There has always been this defined frontman. In this sense, is Harry Kane the last, perhaps the end of a line that stretches through Jimmy Greaves and Geoff Hurst to Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer?

“His place here was taken by Jude Bellingham, who started out as a false nine – although there is a related question: At what point does a false nine become just… a nine?”

“The game will show it. This low-key historical moment could be the future.”

Roy Keane explains why 'brilliant' Cole Palmer is a player you'd pay to watch

When Lee Carsley decided to use Cole Palmer as an attacking midfielder for England's Nations League game against Greece, attention quickly turned to how he could be used to get the best out of the Three Lions team – and why he was so could be an important player.

But it's just the start of a journey that must make him an important part of the plans, whether Carlsey takes over permanently or not. That is the opinion of former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who highlighted Palmer's mindset and technical qualities as key to his impressive performance character.

Bellingham, Foden or Palmer? Lee Carsley knows England need something completely different

“There’s no way I’m going to say something like that again!”

Carsley then insightfully laid out a vision for the position – “not like a traditional Ashley Cole thing” – touching on a much larger discussion about the striker.
