ESPN's Stephen A. Smith and Fox News' Sean Hannity weigh in on the Trump-Harris race

ESPN anchor Stephen A. Smith didn't hold back during an appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News show Thursday night. Just minutes after Hannity called the two “friends,” the two began discussing the presidential election between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Right from the start, Hannity frequently attacked Trump and paid attention to the vice president's mental fitness. “The reason she's struggling and can't do it is because she's tied up in a pretzel,” Hannity said. “She has to give us word salad because she doesn’t want to tell us how she really feels. She hides her true beliefs. Donald Trump doesn’t do that.”

Smith quipped back: “I know you're not talking about someone being clear and convincing and expressing their thoughts clearly, but you're bragging about Donald Trump. We can’t see the same thing.”

Hannity then vehemently defended Trump, telling a skeptical-looking Smith: “I've sat with him hour after hour, topic after topic after topic, and he's so involved.”

“Really?” Smith asked Hannity. “And he cancels press conferences?”

In recent weeks, the former president has stepped away from several high-profile media appearances, including on CBS News' “60 Minutes,” CNBC and a local NBC affiliate in Philadelphia.

The Fox News host ignored Smith's question and quickly switched to the topic of what he called President Joe Biden's “apparent deep cognitive decline.” Hannity accused the vice president and Smith's “friends in the Democratic Party” of ignoring Biden's state of mind before his exit.

“What should she say?” Smith asked. “She should come up there and say, 'You know, my president, my boss, there's been cognitive decline.' You don't do that. You don’t let your boss down.”

Smith then applied Hannity's trustworthiness argument to the former president.

“If you bring up issues of character or of honesty or whatever, let me tell you something now,” Smith said. “You can produce a whole bunch of Republicans, and I’m OK with that. … You can't get Trump to use these arguments to attack someone else. You can’t do that.”

Hannity ended the controversial interview by telling Smith he believed the ESPN host would “privately vote for Trump.”

“Never,” Smith told Hannity. “And I told you, I’m on the record: I would have voted for any Republican but him. (Nikki) Haley, (Chris) Christie, not him.”
