Everything you need to know about this year's race

The world's largest marathon is returning to the Big Apple, and the 53rd running of the 26.2-mile ride through the five boroughs of New York City is set to be the biggest ever.

More than 50,000 runners will run the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, with millions more expected to watch on television.

American runners want to break a losing streak by being the first to cross the finish line. It's been 15 years since Meb Keflezighi won the men's event in 2009. Shalane Flanagan was the last American woman to win the NYC Marathon in 2017.

Tamirat Tola, the men's professional champion, and Hellen Obiri from Kenya, the women's champion, are back. Marcel Hug is aiming for his fourth consecutive victory in the men's wheelchair class at the NYC Marathon and his seventh overall victory.

Defending women's wheelchair champion Catherine Debrunner, who won five Paralympic gold medals in Paris and took the title at the Chicago Marathon last month, will not take part.
