Excessive Heat Warning Continues – NBC Bay Area

The Bay Area will have to wait at least another day or two for relief from the ongoing fall heat wave.

The National Weather Service on Wednesday extended the expiration of the excessive heat warning and heat advisory from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 11 p.m. Friday.

The excessive heat warning applies to the following areas: the inland and coastal areas of the North Bay, San Francisco, the East Bay, the South Bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to the weather service.

Contra Costa County experienced excessive heat Wednesday, forcing various sports practices to be canceled and people not taking to the streets. Christie Smith has details on how the heat wave is affecting the East Bay.

Inland locations could see temperatures rise to 108 degrees during the heat wave, while downtown San Francisco could fry at 87 degrees, the weather service said.

The heat warning now applies to the coastal sections of the North Bay, the Peninsula and Monterey Bay.

According to the weather service, temperatures along the coast could reach 95 degrees.

The Weather Service reminds the public to never leave people or pets in vehicles, limit outdoor activities during the hottest times of the day, and stay hydrated and take cool-down breaks during the duration of the fall heat spell.

The October heat wave is impacting various businesses in the East Bay. Some said customers weren't showing up because of the heat. Pete Suratos has the details.
