Experience the implosion of the Tropicana Las Vegas live with fireworks

In true Vegas style, Sin City says goodbye to one of its most traditional strip casinos with a bang.

The Tropicana Las Vegas, founded in 1957, is expected to be destroyed in an implosion at 2:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

While safety restrictions prevent public viewing, the implosion will be broadcast live as a “stunning spectacle featuring 555 drones and fireworks,” according to a press release from Bally's.

The infamous resort closed April 2, two days before its 67th anniversary, to make way for a 33,000-seat Major League Baseball stadium for the relocating Oakland Athletics.

Once “the Tiffany of the Strip”: For former showgirls, the Tropicana was their home.

Once the 300-room property is destroyed, the Sahara will be the only 1950s-era Strip resort. The demolition marks the first time the city has blown up the Strip casino since the Riviera, now home to the expanded Las Vegas Convention Center, was razed.

Warning warns of nearby cloud of “tropical dust”

According to the Clark County Department of Environment & Sustainability, an air quality dust advisory was issued for the early morning hours following Wednesday's implosion as a cloud of “tropical dust” is expected in the area.

“We expect the dust could last for a few hours, but it is unlikely to last for 24 hours,” Paul Fransioli, senior specialist for the Division of Air Quality, said in a news release. “The dust cloud will be heaviest near the implosion site and will likely dissipate as it moves east.”

The advisory warns tourists and nearby residents to limit outdoor exertion, close windows and turn on air conditioning. Dust in the air poses the risk of exacerbating respiratory diseases.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and children may be at higher risk from particulate matter, especially if they are physically active.
