Few storms as the cold front passes before it gets significantly cooler

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – While no widespread rain is expected with our next cold front, there will be a few scattered showers and storms while many of us sleep. One thing we will all be feeling is a big cool down in the coming week as many areas could experience their first frost of the season.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

The chance of rain we have remains through the first half of the night as the cold front slides into the region and drier weather sets in as we begin Monday. Winds will remain somewhat gusty as they become more northerly Monday morning, which will help the air become cooler and drier. On the way to work and school, temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 50s.

Monday will be a day full of sunshine, but also noticeably cooler, with highs only reaching into the mid-60s. It will be a windy afternoon as winds continue to blow from the north and west at speeds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph at times. As winds continue to remain more northerly, we will be in for even cooler mornings through the middle of the week.

The look forward

Our cooler afternoons will begin mid-week as high temperatures remain in the upper 50s to lower 60s Wednesday through Thursday before gradually warming towards the end of the week. The further we get into Thursday morning and Friday, the greater the chance of frost. However, there is a small chance of patchy frost Wednesday morning if the wind dies down sufficiently.

Be sure to dust off the heavier jackets and coats as you head out the door. We'll track how long the slowdown lasts in your WVLT First Alert 8-Day Planner.
