More than 66 million people in the United States voted ahead of the general election on Tuesday, November 5, according to data through November 1 from the University of Florida's Election Lab. In Missouri, nearly 280,000 people voted early, according to university data as of Oct. 30.

According to Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller, as of Nov. 1, about 30,000 people in Greene County have either requested an absentee ballot or cast an in-person absentee ballot.

According to the Secretary of State, Missouri saw an overall voter turnout of 70% in the 2020 presidential election. Schoeller told the Springfield News-Leader that he expects a 75% voter turnout this election.

Here's what you need to bring and what you need to know if you're a voter on November 5th.

What do I need to vote in Missouri?

Missouri law requires voters to present a valid government-issued photo ID from the state of Missouri or the federal government, such as a driver's license, passport or military ID.

If you don't have ID but are eligible to vote, you can cast a provisional ballot. Your vote will count if the signature on your provisional ballot matches your signature on the voter roll or if you return to your polling place on Election Day and present a valid photo ID.

When do polls open on Election Day in Missouri?

Polls open on Tuesday, November 5th at 6:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. If it is your turn when the polls close at 7 p.m., you have the right to cast your vote.

Where can I vote?

If you are not sure where your polling place is, you can check your registration on the Missouri Secretary of State's website. There you can find out where your polling place is, or you can visit https://vote.greenecountymo.gov/voting for information.

There are centralized polling locations where any registered Greene County voter can cast their vote:

  • Great Southern Bank Arena, 685 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway, Springfield;
  • Mercy Hospital, 1235 E. Cherokee St., Springfield;
  • City Utilities Transit Center, 211 N. Main Ave., Springfield;
  • CoxHealth Medical Center South, 3801 S. National Ave., Springfield.

Two polling locations in Greene County have changed due to expected voter turnout. N Republic A voters will cast their ballots at Republic Middle School, 688 Hines St. in Republic. Those who previously cast their votes at Missouri State University's central voting location will be at the Great Southern Bank Arena, 685 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway in Springfield.

How about postal voting?

Absentee ballots can be cast at the Greene County Archives/Election Center, 1126 N. Boonville Ave., Monday through Friday through Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to be voted on in Springfield. When voting by mail in person, you must present a valid photo ID.

Currently, no-excuse in-person absentee voting is in effect, which means anyone can vote in person by postal vote without having to provide a reason for voting by post.

The deadline for requesting postal votes by post has expired. Mailed ballots must be voted on, notarized, returned by mail, and received at the clerk's office before 7:00 p.m. on November 5th.
