Fire rages through several homes in Newark, New Jersey

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (WABC) — A massive three-alarm fire ripped through several homes in Newark, New Jersey on Tuesday.

The fire broke out on Montgomery Avenue at Avon Avenue at 5:21 p.m., fire officials said.

According to NewsCopter7, thick black smoke can be seen from 20 miles away.

At least four houses were on fire around 5:45 p.m

Firefighters are working to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses.

Fire officials said the fire was an outside attack and that firefighters were experiencing problems with low water pressure and at least one dead hydrant.

Nearby homes are being evacuated as the fire continues to spread rapidly.

Several trees around the house also caught fire and a car in the driveway was engulfed in flames.

According to Lee Goldberg, 20 mph wind gusts and dry air are contributing to the fire's rapid spread.

Officials said no injuries were reported.
