Flood Warnings, Watch across the South Plains as severe storms continue

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – updated at 10:10 a.m. – The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Lubbock, as well as SE Hockley County, S Lubbock County, Terry County and NW Lynn County until noon.

* At 10:08 a.m. CDT, Doppler radar and automatic rain gauges indicated thunderstorms with heavy rain repeatedly sweeping across the warned area. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely from near Brownfield to Lubbock. Flash flooding is expected to occur shortly.

IMPACT… Flash flooding of small streams and creeks, urban areas, highways, streets and subways, and other poorly drained and low-lying areas.

Lubbock, Brownfield, Wolfforth, Shallowater, Idalou, Slide,
Lubbock South Plains Mall, Reese Center, Woodrow, Texas Tech University, Lubbock International Airport, New Deal, Meadow, Ropesville and New Home.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Turn around and avoid drowning if you encounter flooded roads. Most floods
Deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Lubbock drivers are reporting flooding up to hood height of cars at 4th and Frankfort Streets.

Thunderstorms and rain will blow through the area all day today and parts of Sunday and Monday.

Highs today will cool to the mid 60s to mid 70s, with Lubbock expecting around 69. Thunderstorms and rain showers will continue throughout the morning and during the day.
