Folie A Deux viewership drops 52% compared to Joker

The original Joker film created at least some divide between critics and fans, with a critic score of 68%, compared to a higher audience score of 89%. Given the rather dismal reviews of For Joker: Folie a Deux, it might have made sense to assume something like this would happen again. Instead, the film's audience ratings are currently even lower than its already terrible critical ratings.

Right now, “Joker” has a critic score of 39%, tied with “Black Adam” and worse than “Shazam: Fury of the Gods.” But the audience rating is even worse at 37%, suggesting that those who liked Joker 1 and lined up to see the opening of Folie a Deux hated it much, much more than the first film . Of course, the original wasn't a musical and didn't have an ending, which everyone seems to despise.

These viewership numbers are among the lowest in DC history. Do you think the original Suicide Squad is lower? False, 56%. Black Adam? Wrong, 88%(!). Green Lantern? No, 45%. To find lower values, you have to go back to old, terrible DC content like Steel, Batman, and Robin and Catwoman.

This is, at the very least, a major disaster for DC. However, whether this will turn into a financial catastrophe remains to be seen. Joker: Folie a Deux's budget has reportedly increased to $200 million, almost four times the original budget of $55 million, which would go on to gross a billion worldwide. So even half of that would still be a financial success, although the concept probably ends there, as Todd Phillips says he's done with the DC Universe now.

The announcement of a Joker musical sequel was bizarre when it was first confirmed, and it remains bizarre in practice, with the sequel seeming largely unhinged and simply unnecessary overall. It doesn't have that zero Fans, sure, but these numbers are actually some of the lowest in DC history, and The lowest in the entire DCEU/Elseworlds era. It wasn't a matter of “the critics were wrong,” which can sometimes happen with superhero features. This was simply a failure for everyone.

Here too we are waiting for the box office to open. Reports say they're looking at a worldwide opening of $140 million, which is pretty good and includes $45-$57 million domestically. Even if the percentage is lower, it's hard to imagine that the film will be profitable, even if it's nowhere near the original. I was definitely convinced to skip it at this point.
