You can't blame Brits for staying away from the polls after voting earlier this year.

But a new poll shows they're intrigued by the tough fight for US president and have voted for who they think would do a good job in the White House… and it's Hollywood star Tom Hanks!

With just 30 days until Americans go to the polls this Sunday, a new YouGov poll for Betfair asked more than 2,000 Brits which famous people they think would make a good leader of the free world.

Oscar winner Hanks, famous for film blockbusters such as “Forrest Gump,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “Philadelphia,” was overwhelmingly in the lead with 36 percent of the vote, followed by fellow actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with 22 percent and Oprah Winfrey with 22 percent 21 percent.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: “Several US celebrities have successfully made the transition into politics.” Trump himself hosted “The Apprentice” on television there, and Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger could also be seen. So we thought it would be fun to find out which stars Brits think would do a good job in the White House.

“It's not surprising that a popular actor like Hanks, known for playing likeable but strong characters on screen, is at the top of the poll.”

“Other well-known figures like The Rock and Oprah are also viewed as good leaders of the free world.”

“He's already taken over Twitter, could the White House be next?” “Almost one in five Brits think Elon Musk would make a good US president.”

The Betfair poll found that the real presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris has captured the imagination of the British people, with 60 percent of all respondents saying they were interested in the fight for the White House.
