Fright and Fun: Halloween Events for UofM Students and Locals

As Halloween approaches, the University of Memphis and the City of Memphis are planning a series of fascinating spooky events that will captivate students and locals alike.

Whether you're looking for a haunted house to give you goosebumps, a high-energy costume party on campus, or a spooky ghost tour through the haunted streets of Memphis, there's no shortage of spooky entertainment. For those new to town or just looking to get into the Halloween spirit, these activities offer a frighteningly good time that shouldn't be missed.

According to the University of Memphis events app, Tiger Zone, there are plenty of exciting activities to get students in the Halloween spirit.

To kick off the spooky season, the Honors College is hosting a murder mystery party on October 18 at 6 p.m. “Join HSO as we try to solve the crime!” said the organization online.

If you're a fan of spooky cinema, the Korean Pop Culture Association is hosting a movie night on October 25 at 6 p.m. and encourages attendees to “bring your blankets and spooky snacks for a cozy and spooky evening of cinematic fun.”

This month also marks LGBTQ+ History Month, and the Stonewall Tigers Gender and Sexuality Alliance is planning a grand finale with its 5th Annual Drag Show and Costume Contest on October 25th at 6 p.m. Participants have the chance to win a cash prize while enjoying free food.

On Halloween night itself, Chi Alpha is hosting a party at Centennial Place from 6 p.m. For more information about these events, students can download the Tiger Zone Mobile App.

The Halloween fun doesn't stop at the university gates, however. Eventbrite lists a variety of festive events
Activities around Memphis. For fitness enthusiasts, Rumble Boxing is offering free boxing classes on Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your gloves, shoes and energy for this screaming workout.

If you're looking to get your home ready for Halloween, Country Gardens Memphis has you covered: hay bales, corn stalks, pumpkins and gourds.

For those looking for thrills and relaxation, Memphis haunted houses like Backbeat Tours, Haunted Web Scream Park, Historical Haunts Memphis, and Wicked Ways Haunted House will get your heart racing.

Halloween night also features classic events like trunk-or-treats and costume parties. One of the city's most popular attractions, Zoo Boo at the Memphis Zoo offers dinosaur-themed activities and trick-or-treat stations for all ages.
