Georgia football vs. No. 1 Texas final odds and a prediction

Georgia football vs. No. 1 Texas final odds and a prediction

No. 5 Georgia and No. 1 Texas will face off Saturday night in Austin, TX at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Georgia is looking to secure bowl eligibility by improving its record to 6-1 while regaining the lead for a trip to the SEC Championship Game.

The Bulldogs have plenty of difficult games on the schedule, but none will be more difficult than this one. In fact, Georgia is an underdog for the first time since 2021.

But how much of an outsider is Georgia?

As of December 19th at 5:00 a.m. EST, Texas is the 5-point favorite over Georgia on ESPN Bet. The over-under is also 57.5 points. ESPN's FPI Prediction Score also gives UGA a 23.6 percent chance of defeating Texas.

I've discussed quite a bit this week about who I think will win this game. Going into the week, I thought Texas would win this game, and I wouldn't have been surprised if they won by a comfortable margin. But as the week goes on, I'm more and more confident that Georgia can pull off the upset.

Maybe this is my bias starting to take hold, but my prediction is starting to follow my heart instead of my head.

So give me Kirby Smart and Georgia to come to Austin while the entire college football world is watching and bring a big win back to Athens. I also think both defenses will struggle in this game, so I expect the over to strike as well.

A Georgia win would also make this game one of the all-time best wins in program history. Defeating the No. 1 team in the country en route to getting back into SEC and National Championship contention is big enough, but a win would also be Smart's 100th of his career.

And I expect that's exactly what we'll be celebrating late Saturday evening.

Final Prediction: Georgia wins 34-31
