Filming has finally begun on Edgar Wright's highly anticipated remake of The Running Man, three years after it was first announced.

Lead actor Glenn Powell has been spotted on set at London's iconic Battersea Power Station as he reprises the role made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action film.

Looking the part, Glenn wore an 80s-style ensemble consisting of a hoodie, denim shirt and brown jacket for his starring role in Ben Richards.

The production took over the famous London landmark while uniformed guards from the police state featured in the film patrolled outside.

A masked character was also seen filming footage, sprinting around the building and colliding with extras.

British director Wright has taken on the mammoth task of remaking the cult classic action film. based on the novel by Stephen King, under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

The film is set in a dystopian future where a TV show follows criminal “runners” as they evade professional killers.

Schwarzenegger's original film takes place between 2017 and 2019 in the United States. Wright hasn't specified when his version is set or how he sees the classic, although it's reportedly more based on King's original novel.

The novel focuses on a desperate man who needs money for his sick daughter, which is why he appears on the popular TV show “The Running Man”.

The longer a contestant survives, the more money that person makes, as Richards soon uncovers the show's dark secrets and evil producers.

Wright has been committed to the project since 2021, having called it the film he would most like to remake.

Powell opened up about his role in the project during a summer interview with IndieWire, gushing, “I'll be shooting The Running Man in the fall.”

“We talked back and forth about the scripts and it’s so much fun.”

“The world that Edgar has created with this thing is just outrageous.” It's so good. And really, we're both big fans of the Stephen King book (which the movie is based on) and it's going to be a great character. I'm so excited about it.'

The actor has long had Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz director Wright at the top of his dream list of collaborators, as he explained:
