'Grey's Anatomy' Author Took Barf Breaks While Faking Cancer (Exclusive Clip)

It required serious commitment.

In the new three-part documentary Anatomy of liesAuthor and producer Andy Reaser, a former colleague of Elisabeth Finch, who Grey's Anatomy The author and consulting producer, who later confessed to faking cancer, explains how far Finch went to make her story believable.

“It was like performance art,” Reaser says in the exclusive clip above. “She showed up to work with her head shaved and a, you know, greenish tint. She looked like she was living in a microwave. She ate those saltines, drank ginger ale, and went to the bathroom to take a puke break from her “chemo.”

Reaser even heard rumors that Finch had been checking out the medical props from the long-running Shonda Rhimes series.

Finch admitted in December 2022 that she didn't actually have cancer — and that was just one of the lies she told about herself. She was placed on leave from the show in the spring and resigned shortly thereafter.

Anatomy of lies is based on a two-parter Vanity Fair Story by Evgenia Peretz, who directed the documentaries alongside David Schisgall, who has worked on previous projects for the magazine brand. In this case, the story is told by people who were among Finch's closest contacts.

In Reaser's case, the whole situation confused him because it must have been so difficult to maintain the story. He had known Finch for years.

“It was so confusing. You have to have eight years of interactions to even understand it,” he says. “And I’m not even sure I have it all over yet.”
