Haason Reddick turned down a one-year offer from the Jets due to reluctance

The parties assumed an amicable solution would be reached that would allow the pass rusher to play for the Jets, earn his money back and have the opportunity to play in a defense this offseason with a big 2024 , which the trainers believe is perfect for him to make money again. However, Reddick declined to sign the deal.

At that point, the Jets had no choice but to move on and hope he showed up. Reddick just didn't want to come in, even though a clear victory wasn't possible.

Reddick wanted a multi-year contract that would make him one of the highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL and resisted. There doesn't seem to be a market for such a deal at the moment.

Reddick was scheduled to make $14.25 million this season, and when the Jets traded for him to the Eagles, he wanted a multi-year deal. New York had a one-year option in mind, with Reddick following through and becoming a free agent in 2025.

Currently, Reddick is the only NFL player holding out. He must report by Week 13 to receive an accrued season, otherwise his contract will expire and everyone will be in the same situation next year.

Reddick could also decide to leave the game and take an even more principled stance.

This week, in a news conference discussing the firing of coach Robert Saleh, Jets owner Woody Johnson begged Reddick to show up.

“Haason, get in your car, drive down (I)-95 and come to the New York Jets and we can meet you and escort you right in the building and you'll fit right in,” Johnson said. “You will like it here, you will feel welcome and you will achieve great things with us.”

When asked to sum it up, Johnson said: “This is something I've never seen before, you know, and you've got more years left than I have. I don't think any of us have seen anything like this. I think you have to be part psychologist and part other essential thing to figure out what's actually going on.”

He said Reddick would be welcomed with open arms when he showed up.
