2024 Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips from IMPD for this Halloween

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department offered several safety tips for Halloween trick-or-treaters. Here are some things parents and children should consider before heading out:

Check the weather and dress accordingly before hitting the road.
Infants and children with special needs should be accompanied by an adult.
Consider light-colored clothing or reflective tape for costumes and adjust costume length to avoid tripping.
With all face masks, visibility is the number one priority. Do not wear masks in stores.
Avoid props like toy guns, which can look real.
If possible, go out in daylight or take a flashlight if you go after dark
Give and accept only packaged or boxed treats
Inspect candy loot before eating. Report any suspicious items to the police immediately. Call IMPD at 317-327-3811. Call 911 if there is an injury.
