Harris makes one final appeal to Michigan's Muslim voters

Vice President Kamala Harris made a last-minute appeal to Muslim voters in the swing state of Michigan, a group that continues to express anger over the Biden administration's handling of the conflict in Gaza.

“I want to say that this year has been devastating given the level of death and destruction in Gaza and given the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon,” Harris said at a rally in Michigan on Sunday. “And as president, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, bring the hostages home, end the suffering in Gaza, ensure the security of Israel and ensure that the Palestinian people have their right to dignity, freedom and peace can be achieved. Security and self-determination.”

The comments came just over a week after several Michigan Muslim leaders joined former President Trump on stage during a rally in Novi, Michigan, to express their support for his leader.”

Imam Belal Alzuhairi and Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi were among the group of four Muslim leaders who formally endorsed Trump on stage and boasted about the former president's ability to avoid international conflict.

“We as Muslims stand with President Trump because he promises peace, not war!” Alzuhairi said during his remarks. “The bloodshed must stop around the world and I think this man can make it happen. Personally, I believe God saved his life twice for a reason.”

During her rally on Sunday, Harris said she was “joined today by leaders of the Arab American community,” although the leaders did not join her on stage and it is unclear which leaders she was referring to.

The rally also took place on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, which is nearly 90 miles northwest of Dearborn, a city with the highest Muslim per capita population in the country that has been at the center of resistance to her campaign.

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

A large percentage of Michigan's Muslim population, a reliable Democratic voting bloc in recent years, has spent much of 2024 opposing the party's presidential candidates. During the state's primary campaign, the “Junk Biden” movement over the president's handling of the conflict in Gaza resulted in over 100,000 Michigan residents voting “non-committal” rather than supporting his bid for re-election.

That movement has since spilled over into Harris' campaign, a reality that Trump has sought to exploit by spreading the message of ending ongoing wars overseas and bringing peace and stability to the world.

That message appears to have resonated with some Muslim leaders in Michigan.

“We will stop the wars, we will make the United States safe again and we will make the world safe,” Bazzi said during his speech in Novi.

“What a beautiful endorsement,” Trump said after Bazzi’s speech. “They’re great people.”
