HBO orders show starring David Harbour, Jason Bateman and Pedro Pascal

HBO has greenlit the limited series DTF St. Louis, which will star Jason Bateman and David Harbor. diversity has learned.

HBO has given the series a seven-episode order. The show was originally announced to be in development as early as 2022, with Harbor and Pedro Pascal serving as lead producers and executive producers. The project was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist's Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.”

However, according to a person with knowledge of the project, the series' creative direction has evolved over time and is now based on a completely original idea with no connection to the original article. Additionally, Pascal is no longer affiliated in any capacity. However, he remains in business with HBO as the second season of “The Last of Us” is set to debut in 2025.

The official logline for “DTF St. Louis” describes it as “a darkly comedic limited series about a love triangle between three adults suffering from middle-aged malaise that leads to one of them dying.”

Steven Conrad remains attached to the series as writer, showrunner, executive producer and director. Both Harbor and Bateman will serve as executive producers, with Bateman doing so under his Aggregate Films banner. Additional executive producers include: Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Molly Allen; Bruce Terris; Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films; Kristina Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; Lasdun; and MGM Television.

Bateman is no stranger to HBO, having previously starred in, directed and executive produced the limited series The Outsider on the premium cable network. His work on the show earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2020. Bateman also received Emmy nominations for his work on the hit Netflix series “Ozark” as an actor and director, and won the award for best performance in 2019 for directing a drama series. He has been nominated for his work on shows such as “Arrested Development” and most recently as executive producer of the Apple TV+ series “Lessons in Chemistry.” He is currently preparing the Netflix series “Black Rabbit,” in which he stars alongside Jude Law.

Harbor currently stars in the blockbuster Netflix series Stranger Things, which is currently in its fifth and final season. Harbor has received two Emmy nominations for his work on the series. He also starred in series such as “Q Force”, “Manhattan” and “Rake” as well as films such as “Black Widow”, “Black Mass”, “The Equalizer” and “Hellboy”.

Conrad is known for creating shows such as Ultra City Smiths and Patriot, as well as co-creating Perpetual Grace, LTD. He has also written films such as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Wonder and The Pursuit of Happyness.

Harbor is repped by WME and Sloane Offer. Conrad is represented by CAA and Weintraub Tobin. Bateman and Aggregate Films are repped by CAA and Lighthouse Management + Media, while Bateman is also repped by Hansen Jasobsen and Shelter PR.
