Heat, the Knicks will likely compete with the Lakers to sign the guard waived by the Celtics

The Miami Heat are looking to return to the NBA Finals this season, and the biggest obstacle standing in their way is the Boston Celtics.

Miami doesn't mind adding former Celtics to its roster to outdo their Eastern Conference opponents (see: Terry Rozier), and the Heat could now be in play to sign another former Boston guard.

Miami's starting lineup is set, but like most contenders, the Heat could use even more points on the bench.

Former Celtic Lonnie Walker IV (waived by Boston on Saturday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania) would fit seamlessly into Miami's offense, just as he did for the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers over the last two seasons.

Heat manager Pat Riley should take immediate action to acquire Walker, especially since Walker's former team, the Lakers, are sure to pick up the phone this weekend to negotiate a reunion deal.

The defensive-minded New York Knicks (also a contender in need of a bench offense) would be a perfect fit for Walker. Like Miami, New York must be grinning at the prospect of snapping up a former Celtic.

Walker won't remain an unclaimed commodity for long. He is a proven bucket-getter in the NBA. The question is: Will Los Angeles, Miami or New York go all-in on Walker, or will the scoring machine shine in another city this season?
