PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles ended their first-quarter scoring drought and got an amazing play from Saquon Barkley that has to be seen to be believed.

Then, with 22 seconds left in the first half, Barkley again tied the Jaguars at 19 and gave the Eagles a 16-0 halftime lead.

It wasn't a happy return for former Eagles coach Doug Pederson, who is in his third season as Jaguars coach. The Jaguars are 2-6, having suffered a 5-1 loss after an 8-3 start last season.

And the Eagles quickly put the Jaguars in trouble when they ended their season-long losing streak in the first quarter after Jacksonville's Austin Trammell botched a punt after being hit by Sydney Brown.

Saquon Barkley scored on a 20-yard pass from Jalen Hurts for a 7-0 lead with 10:22 left in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the Eagles made a field goal for a 10-0 lead.

That performance was highlighted by Barkley managing a reverse shot over a Jaguars defender and converting a third down.

The Eagles had a great chance to extend the lead when rookie Cooper DeJean intercepted Trevor Lawrence's fourth-down pass from the Jaguars' 39.

The Eagles faced a 4th-and-3 from the Jaguars' 22 and went for the first down. Hurts threw the ball to AJ Brown late, but Delaware native Darnell Savage broke up the pass and the Jaguars took over.

The Eagles had another chance just before halftime when Zack Baun intercepted Trevor Lawrence on the Jaguars' 42nd. It looked like the Eagles would have to settle for a field goal when Johnny Wilson was called for offensive pass interference on his touchdown catch.

The Eagles faced a 3rd-and-17 from the 19th minute. But Jalen Hurts handed off to Barkley on a draw, and Barkley took it in for a TD with 22 seconds left.

The Eagles tried to tie the game at 2 points after a Jaguars penalty, but couldn't get it.

Hurts went 13 of 16 for 117 yards and a TD in the first half. Barkley had 61 yards rushing and 40 yards receiving.

Overall, the Eagles had a 187-32 yardage advantage.

In a snap, the Jaguars scored two touchdowns, each with a 2-point conversion, cutting the Eagles' lead from 22-0 to 22-16.

Trevor Lawrence's 1-yard run with 5:26 remaining in the third quarter and a 2-point conversion made it 22-8. On the Eagles' first play of the 30th minute, Barkley appeared to go down and lose the ball. Jacksonville's Travon Walker picked up the ball and ran it into the goal from 35 yards.

It appeared Barkley had his arm lowered as he fumbled, but a replay confirmed the touchdown.

Jalen Hurts ran the ball downfield from 18 yards out to give the Eagles a 22-0 lead with 9:25 left in the third quarter. But wide receiver AJ Brown had already left the game with a knee injury, and left tackle Fred Johnson was injured on Hurts' run.

For the second time, the Eagles attempted a tush push for a 2-pointer after a Jaguars penalty. The Eagles were stopped every time.

Saquon Barkley never ceases to amaze. This time it was a reverse hurdle against Jaguars DB Jarrian Jones. On the Jaguars' 3rd-and-6, Barkley caught a pass from Jalen Hurts and spun past Devin Lloyd. Then, with his back to the end zone, he made a spread eagle over Jones.

Barkley picked up 13 yards on first down. The Eagles took a 10-0 lead with a field goal with 9:20 left in the second quarter.

It took the Eagles eight plays to score their first points in the first quarter, and they can thank the Jaguars.

Facing a 4th-and-1 at midfield, the Eagles prepared for a tush push. But Jack Stoll was called for a false start, so the Eagles stumbled. The Jaguars' Austin Trammell caught the punt and was immediately hit by Sydney Brown, causing the fumble. Kelee Ringo recovered the Jaguars' 20th point.

One play later, Jalen Hurts hit Saquon Barkley for a 20-yard TD. That gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 10:22 left in the first quarter.

Eagles inactive: Darius Slay, Dallas Goedert are out due to injury

The Eagles listed cornerback Darius Slay (groin) and tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) on their gameday inactive list. Goedert missed his third game in a row.

Isaiah Rodgers will start in Slay's place. The Eagles' other inactive players are QB Tanner McKee, S Tristin McCollum, G/T Darian Kinnard and G Trevor Keegan.

The Jaguars will be without two of their top wide receivers as Christian Kirk has been placed on injured reserve and Gabe Davis is out due to injury. That leaves rookie Brian Thomas, who is sixth in the NFL with 573 yards. Thomas was listed as questionable with a chest injury.

LeSean McCoy, the Eagles' all-time leader in rushing yards, will be inducted into the franchise's Hall of Fame.

McCoy played for the Eagles from 2009 to 2014, amassing 6,792 yards. He also holds the franchise record for most rushing yards in a game with 217. This was set up on December 8, 2013 in the “Snow Game” against Detroit.

Delaware native Darnell Savage returns

Caravel Academy star Darnell Savage is in his first season with the Jaguars after signing a three-year deal worth up to $21 million. Savage was the Packers' first-round pick in 2019. He was known for returning an interception for a touchdown in Green Bay's 48-32 win over the Cowboys in the playoffs last season.

Savage has 14 tackles and no interceptions in five games for the Packers.
