Hollywood Brown could return in time for the postseason

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a big move to bolster the wide receiving corps at a much-needed time, just before the halfway point of the regular season. As it turns out, they could get another big boost toward the end of the season.

If things look positive for the Chiefs, NFL reporter James Palmer says the team may be able to get Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on the field in time for the postseason.

At the start of the 2024 season, the Chiefs secured Brown in free agency as their primary offensive target, and he immediately began to show real chemistry with Patrick Mahomes in offseason training activities and private workouts with the Chiefs quarterback.

However, early in the preseason, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury when he was tackled after making his first-ever catch in live competition. He was later sidelined for several weeks, resulting in him playing on injured reserve, requiring subsequent surgery and extending his schedule to a lost season.

Still, according to Palmer, it looks like the idea was floated too early. Given that the Chiefs regularly play into February, this extends the calendar for a possible return to the field for a player like Brown. And given the Chiefs' needs at the position, it would certainly be a most welcome sight to see Brown back and ready to play when it matters most.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs traded DeAndre Hopkins in a deal with the Tennessee Titans just two weeks before the NFL trade deadline. After losing Brown and Rashee Rice this season, the need was there, even before JuJu Smith-Schuster was also briefly sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Brown had 51 catches for 574 yards in 14 games for the Arizona Cardinals last season.
