Homes are heavily damaged by tornado in southeast Oklahoma City near 89th and earlier

Significant damage occurred in southeast Oklahoma City after a tornado struck early Sunday morning.

So far, authorities have confirmed only 11 injuries from the storms, and none are life-threatening.

The police did not provide any further information about the injured. OKC Fire confirmed six people were transported from the hard-hit area of ​​SE 89th and the other five were previously in Choctaw.

In southeast Oklahoma City, the tornado came through and damaged homes by tearing roofs, downing trees and utility poles, tossing tree limbs and overturning vehicles.

News 9's Matt McCabe was on site throughout the day surveying the damage and speaking with neighbors who experienced the storm in the middle of the night.

“I didn't know what to expect, we didn't have time to get to the storm shelter, it just happened so quickly,” said Aaron Martinez, whose home was damaged by the storm.

Another wave of severe weather is possible later on Sunday and Monday.
