I-40 shootings: Raleigh police investigate multiple shots fired at cars along the highway; 1 woman injured

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — According to Raleigh police, six vehicles have been shot at on Interstate 40 in the last few days.

Police said officers responded to calls about a vehicle that had been shot just before 5 a.m. Wednesday on I-40 near the Chapel Hill Road exit. During the investigation, authorities said other vehicles were also struck by gunfire shortly after the initial incident.

According to police, no injuries were reported.

“We are incredibly fortunate and grateful that no one was injured in today’s incidents. However, we recognize that these events are concerning and frightening to those traveling on this portion of the highway, and we take these events very seriously,” RPD said.

The investigation begins two days after police said a woman was shot in the leg on I-40 in the same area. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

During Wednesday's press conference, RPD said officers responded to another vehicle that was also shot near the Buck Jones Road exit on I-40 on Monday. No injuries were reported.

No suspect has been arrested.

Investigators said the shooting did not appear to be a road rage incident and they believe the incidents are related.
