Iowa High School Football Playoffs 2024: First Round Results, Stats and More in 2A, 1A, A and 8-Playe

The Gazette's recap for the first round of the Iowa High School Football Playoffs in 2A, 1A, A and 8-player with statewide results and complete area coverage.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will release second-round pairings and brackets (along with first-round pairings in 5A, 4A and 3A) on Saturday morning.

Class 2A: No. 9 Anamosa 46, Waukon 40

Adam Brophy's 39-yard touchdown reception with 1:19 to play gave the Blue Raiders their first lead of the game and Nate Fischer's interception at the buzzer sealed the Class 2A playoff victory.

Anamosa's Vince Diers completed 24 of 33 passes for 300 yards, including the game-winning pass to Brophy. Austin Scanton rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, and Fischer had two touchdown receptions.

Class 2A: No. 6 North Fayette Valley 42, Monticello 14

The passing combination from Decklyn Heins to Cael Reichter lifted the TigerHawks to a home win in the first round.

They totaled nine throws for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, Heins was 15 of 18 for 252 yards and four scores.

Lincoln Aeschliman ran 13 times for 106 yards and scored two scores for NFV (8-1).

For Monticello (2-7), quarterback Brady Gogel was 15 of 23 for 126 yards and a score.

Class 1A: West Branch 41, No. 4 Sigourney-Keota 33

Brandon Pedersen scored three touchdowns to lead the Bears to a Class 1A playoff upset.

Pedersen scored on an 88-yard kickoff return and passes of 8 and 88 yards from Nolan Staker, who threw three touchdowns.

The Bears trailed 14-0 early and 26-21 at halftime before pulling away in the third period.

Class A: No. 4 Lisbon 49, Starmont 0

The Lions (9-0) forced five turnovers, all before halftime, and led 42-0 at the break.

Tiernan Boots returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown. Evan Coleman took his chance on second down and scored. RIley Stone – another D-lineman – returned a bad pass after a bad snap in the Starmont punt formation 35 yards for a TD.

It was such a night.

The Lions defense did more than just defend. This is intentional.

“We do turnover drills at least once a week,” Coleman said. “Fumble returns, interceptions… It seemed like our offense didn't touch the football for about 20 minutes.”

8 players: Iowa Valley 64, Southeast Warren 48

Nolan Kriegel rushed for six touchdowns and added a 39-yard TD pass to Caleb Haack that secured the Tigers' eight-game first-round playoff victory.

The Tigers trailed 40-30 early in the second half, but held the Warhawks in check in the second half, allowing only one late score and forcing three turnovers.

Layne Peska returned one of his two interceptions on the night for a touchdown.

8 players: No. 6 Gladbrook-Reinbeck 62, Lansing Kee 30

Drew Eilers rushed for 165 yards and five touchdowns and passed for 176 and three more TDs for Gladbrook-Reinbeck.

Dalton Mudderman passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns for Kee and added 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Carter Seitz caught 13 passes for 103 yards.
