Israel attacked a Hezbollah naval base in Beirut overnight, the Israeli military said on Tuesday, as Iran worked to rally Arab Gulf states ahead of a possible retaliation by the Jewish state.

Hezbollah's naval base housed a training center, an area for conducting experiments and military speedboats that would be used to attack Israeli naval vessels and targets in Israeli territorial waters, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Israel also carried out strikes on Hezbollah weapons depots, command centers and other terror targets in Beirut, some of which were underground, the IDF said.

According to the IDF, Israel has taken measures to reduce the risk of harm to civilians. This included issuing accurate and early warnings to civilians in the region before attacks began.

According to the IDF, Hezbollah is hiding more than $500 million in gold and cash in a hospital in Lebanon

The attacks come as speculation grows over how Israel will retaliate for Tehran's rocket attack on Israel on October 1.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted that Tehran's neighbors would not allow their territory to be used for such an attack and that Tehran would retaliate just as hard.

“All neighbors have assured us that they will not allow their land and air to be used against Iran,” Araghchi said, according to state news agency IRNA. “This is an expectation of all friendly and neighboring countries and we consider this a sign of friendship.”
