It's time for basketball*: Spurs vs Magic

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the game thread know how we operate here, but for anyone new, we have a few rules. Our Community Guidelines Apply and basically say: Be cool, no personal attacks, don't troll, and don't curse too much.

Right now, Hurricane Milton is ravaging Florida, and Magic players are probably thinking about the fate of their state as the storm devastates the state's west coast and moves east across Orlando toward the Atlantic Ocean. Maybe they want to spend a little more time in San Antonio and try the breakfast tacos while the area recovers.

The Spurs will only play five preseason games this year, and most teams will probably want to give the expected starters some time to play together and shake off the rust. But that's not how Pop plays the game, so I'm expecting a lot of lineups tonight that would never be seen on the field in a regular season game. It would be nice to see Chris Paul make his debut in a Spurs jersey tonight and that will probably happen, even if only for a limited number of minutes. He's probably ready to play after Victor Wembanyama's big summer of Olympic basketball, but fans would be thrilled to see the great Frenchman on the court, even if it's just for a few minutes.

We'll certainly see plenty of minutes from Julian Champagnie, who played well in the opening game, and more minutes from Harrison Barnes and a slimmed-down Keldon Johnson. As the game draws to a close, there will likely be plenty of time left for Riley Minix and Malachi Flynn, who appear to be fighting for the third and final doubles spot on the roster. There are only three preseason games left, so the players at the end of the training camp roster will need to make the most of their minutes to increase their chances of being picked up by an NBA team, most likely not the Spurs. whose squad is largely fixed.

* Preseason basketball

Match prediction:

Riley Minix and Malachi Flynn will both shoot 100% from distance tonight, just to make things harder for Brian Wright.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
