Jason Kelce opens up about confrontation with fan who insulted Travis over his relationship with Taylor Swift: 'I'm not proud of it'

Jason Kelce began ESPN's “Monday Night Countdown” by addressing his altercation with a Penn State football fan last weekend. The delivery came ahead of Monday night's game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m not happy with anything that happened,” Kelce said during the show’s opening segment. “I'm not proud of it. In a heated moment, I decided to meet hate with hate, and I don't think that's a productive thing to do. I really don't. I don't think it creates a discourse and (I don't think) it's the right way to do things. In that moment I fell to a level I shouldn't have.

“The bottom line is that I want to live my life by the 'golden rule' – I try to live my life,” Kelce continued. “I was always taught that. I try to treat people with decency and respect and I will continue to do that, even if I didn't succeed this week.”

Kelce then turned the conversation back to coverage of Monday night's game, adding that he “didn't think that was necessarily the platform to go into more detail.”

On Saturday, Kelce slammed a fan's phone on the ground after he was taunted and made homophobic slurs. As he walks behind Kelce, a fan can be heard making a homophobic slur regarding the relationship between Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason's brother: “Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a fan because He’s dating Taylor Swift?”

After seemingly hearing the question, Jason turned around and appeared to grab the phone of the fan who said the insult and threw it on the floor. The fan then demanded that Jason give him the phone back, to which Jason said, “Who's the father now?”

Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center, was in State College to appear on “College GameDay,” which was also in town to highlight the top-five matchup between Penn State and Ohio State.

Swift will be in attendance at Monday night's game at Arrowhead Stadium. Since she began dating Travis in 2023, she has regularly attended Chiefs games. She last attended a Chiefs game on Oct. 7, when Kansas City beat the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.
