Joe Mazzulla 'not worried' about Celtics star's hip flexor problem – NBC Sports Boston

Jaylen Brown has missed the last two games with a hip flexor injury that has been bothering him since training camp. But it doesn't sound like this will be a long-term problem for the Boston Celtics star.

“Don’t worry,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla told 98.5 The Sports Hub Zolak & Bertrand on Tuesday when asked about Brown's injury.

“He’s doing well,” Mazzulla added of Brown. “It's a burden and he's working very hard every day in treatment and just trying to get back on track. So he’s not worried, and I don’t think he is either.”

Mazzulla then responded with a yes when asked if he didn't think Brown's injury was serious and was more something that would have to be dealt with in the future.

That's good news for the Celtics, especially after Brown's recent comments about his injury. The NBA Finals MVP told The Boston Globe's Gary Washburn that he had an MRI of his left hip flexor during training camp and that his hip was bothering him so much that he had to get a second MRI after Friday's win over the Hornets in Charlotte plan.

“I didn’t feel like my legs were underneath me and I was struggling with that hip flexor,” Brown told Washburn. “It affects more of my explosion and breakout. And then I mentally try to figure it out too. When I think about it, it messes things up a bit, but I’ll be fine.”

The illness didn't stop Brown from getting off to a strong start to the season; He is averaging 25.7 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in all six appearances so far. The Celtics have done well without Brown, beating the Hornets on Saturday and defeating the Atlanta Hawks on Monday to improve to 7-1 on the young season.

The C's are talented enough to play it safe with Brown's injury, but we expect he'll want to get back on the court as soon as possible. Boston's next game is Wednesday night at TD Garden against Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston.
