Junto Nakatani-Petch CP Freshmart, ESPN+ undercard weigh-in results from Tokyo

Junto Nakatani not only makes weight, but also makes it a point to stay below the division limit.

The three-time and reigning WBC bantamweight titleholder weighed 117 ¾ pounds in his last appearance on the scales. Nakatani defends his belt against Thailand's Petch CP Freshmart, who weighed 117 ½ pounds.

Their scheduled 12-round contest heads an ESPN+ quadrupleheader that includes three title fights at Ariake Arena in Tokyo on Monday.

Nakatani (28-0, 21 knockouts) is fresh off a first-round knockout against Vincent Astrolabio of the Philippines. Their July 20 headliner at Tokyo's Kokugikan Arena fronted a similar line-up to that event.

The victory over Astrolabio followed Nakatani's sixth-round knockout of Alexandro Santiago on February 24, making him the three-division titleholder. Nakatani's third fight of the year takes place on Monday, with the WBC bantamweight title at stake.

CP Freshmart (76-1, 53 KOs) – birth name Tasana Salapat – is amazingly entering his first career title fight.

The 30-year-old southpaw has been a professional for more than thirteen years. The closest he came to a major belt was a loss to Takuma Inoue in their interim WBC bantamweight title fight in December 2018. CP Freshmart – birth name Tasana Salapat – has won 28 times in a row, although mostly against mediocre competition.

The co-feature of the evening is the only fight of the evening that is not for the title. Popular gate attraction Tenshin Nasukawa faces Gerwin Asilo (9-0, 4 KOs) of the Philippines in a ten-round regional title fight.

Nasukawa (4-0, 2 KOs) weighed right at the division limit of 118 pounds. Asilo (9-0, 4 KOs) was slightly lighter at 117½ pounds in his first career fight outside the Philippines.

Nasukawa just scored his first true knockout victory. He knocked out Jonathan Rodriguez (not the fat guy who lost weight against Tanaka) in the third round on the July 20 Nakatani-Astrolabio undercard. He also stopped Luis Robles in the third round, but due to an ankle injury.

The former kickboxing star went the distance in each of his first two fights but is already on his way to a title shot.

Kosei Tanaka (20-1, 11 KOs) has a fight to look forward to this time around. The four-division reigning WBO junior bantamweight titleholder will face undefeated South African visiting contender Phumelele Cafu (10-0-3, 8 KOs).

Both fighters made weight, which was a problem before Tanaka's canceled title defense on July 20. Tanaka hit exactly the 115-pound mark at junior bantamweight. Cafu weighed 114 ¾ pounds in his first career title fight.

Tanaka, ranked No. 4 at 115, was scheduled to defend his title on the July 20 Nakatani-Astrolabio card. However, challenger Jonathan Rodriguez showed more than seven pounds over the 115-pound limit and was eliminated from the show.

To open the show, recently crowned WBO flyweight titleholder Anthony Olascuaga faces former WBO 108-pound belt holder Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez.

Olascuaga of Los Angeles (7-1, 5 KOs), No. 8 at 112, weighed 111 ¾ pounds in his first title defense, which he won in a third-round knockout over Riku Kano. Puerto Rico's Gonzalez (28-3-1, 14 KOs) moved up to the 112-pound limit to become a two-division titleholder.

The show airs live on ESPN+ starting at 4:00 p.m. ET. It comes a day after a four-title fight at the venue on Sunday. Both events are presented by Mr. Honda's Teiken Promotions in association with Top Rank and All Star Boxing, Inc.
