“Just like I saw Rose”…Erin Blanchfield praises top flyweight after tough comeback at UFC Edmonton

Erin Blanchfield wasted no time in challenging one of the flyweight division's top contenders after picking up a comeback victory at UFC Edmonton.

Blanchfield defeated former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in the co-main event of UFC Edmonton. After losing the first two rounds on all three judges' scorecards, Blanchfield used her dominant wrestling to subdue Namajunas and win the final three.

It was a huge win for Blanchfield after a loss at UFC Atlantic City ended her undefeated promotion streak. She was on a nine-fight winning streak before losing to Manon Fiorot.

Blanchfield, 25, showed tremendous maturity in her return since her first UFC setback. After topping Namajunas via unanimous decision, Blanchfield prepared for a potential fight for the No. 1 contendership.

Erin Blanchfield called out Alexa Grasso to UFC Edmonton

During her post-fight Octagon interview with Daniel Cormier, Blanchfield called out one of her early idols, Alexa Grasso.

“I would like to fight Alexa Grasso,” Blanchfield said. “I think she's a great fighter, someone I watched just like I watched Rose (Namajunas).

“And I would like to win her over.”

Grasso most recently lost her trilogy with Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 306. Before that, she earned a win and a draw against Shevchenko in their previous two duels.

Erin Blanchfield is bouncing back strongly after her first UFC loss

Blanchfield, a top-five contender in the flyweight division, is on the verge of a potential title shot after UFC Edmonton. A win over Grasso could cement her as the next flyweight title contender.

After regaining the title, Shevchenko is expected to face Fiorot in her first title defense of this second flyweight championship stretch. Fiorot served as a backup at UFC 306 and has recent wins over Blanchfield, Namajunas and Mayra Bueno Silva.

Blanchfield put together one of her most impressive performances at UFC Edmonton despite failing to finish Namajunas. Regardless, Blanchfield has proven to be a dangerous puzzle to solve as she moves closer to a title shot.
