On Friday evening we took a new look at the Karen Read case.

Dateline aired a two-hour Karen Read special on the case, including an exclusive interview and more.

Read, who was charged with second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, and denies the allegations, spoke to the legendary NBC news magazine ahead of her closely watched trial, which ended with the judge declaring a mistrial .

But before the episode aired at 9 p.m., we got a preview of the case on “Canton Confidential,” NBC10 Boston's news show that provides daily insight into what's happening at the Norfolk Supreme Court and beyond.

Friday's episode also featured a live interview with a representative of the ACLU of Massachusetts, which filed a brief this week in support of Read's attempt to have two of the three charges against her dropped, as well as insight into the costs of the first trial and the fascination that so many have with the case and true crime in general.
