San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters during a conference call Friday, a day after the team's 36-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field, providing an update on injuries to several players.

Run back Jordan Mason Left the game in the second quarter and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation. He briefly returned in the third quarter but was unable to continue and remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the game.

“Jordan Mason, he had a shoulder AC sprain,” Shanahan reported.

Next week, the 49ers begin preparing for their Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and Mason's status remains uncertain.

“We view it as good news,” Shanahan added. “I mean, there’s no guarantee this week or anything. He does have an AC sprain, but I'm sure it wasn't any worse. So he'll be day-to-day (next) week, and hopefully he'll be good for the game, but there's no guarantee.

“…Jordan is as strong as anyone, so I'm sure he'll have a chance to play, but we'll have to wait and see how the shoulder reacts. We only have one more day.”

Mustapha is commonplace

Tests on Friday confirmed rookie safety Malik Mustapha suffered a lower ankle sprain, which also made his condition commonplace.

Another kicker injury

For the second straight year, a 49ers kicker suffered an injury. Newly signed Matthew Wright left the game with a shoulder injury while trying to make a tackle on a kickoff return, just as starting kicker Jake Moody was injured Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

“We’re still waiting for his MRI to come back,” Shanahan explained. “He dislocated it – or it came out for a little while. … It went back in, but we’ll have to find out more about it when we get the MRI.”

Shanahan expressed concern about Wright's availability for Week 7, saying, “We're not sure. I mean, we know he’ll have a chance, but we won’t know for sure until we get the MRI back.”

If Wright's injury is more serious, the 49ers will again use the kicker for a tryout.

Further injury updates

Shanahan also provided updates on the following players who did not participate against the Seahawks:

  • DT Jordan Elliott continues rehabilitation from his knee injury. The 49ers will reevaluate him early next week.
  • The 49ers are hoping for LB Demetrius Flannigan Fowleswho is struggling with a semi-injury, will return to training next week.
  • CB Charvarius Wardwho was unable to play against the Seahawks due to a bruised knee, is considered current.

The coach also confirmed that the 49ers would be opening at rookie wide receiver Ricky PearsallThe practice window begins next week, giving the team 21 days to remove him from the non-football injury list (NFI) once it officially happens. However, it runs back Christian McCaffreyThe practice window remains closed for the time being.
