Lakers beat Timberwolves in JJ Redick's coaching debut as LeBron James and Bronny make history – Orange County Register

LOS ANGELES – The Lakers' 110-103 season-opening victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night was significant for several reasons.

Star forward LeBron James and his son Bronny officially became the first father and son to attend an NBA game at the same time – let alone as teammates.

It was the first time since 2016 that the Lakers won their season opener.

And the win at Crypto.com Arena was the Lakers' first under new head coach JJ Redick, whose influence was felt in the team's style of play and hustle from the start.

Despite a subpar shooting game, the Lakers under Redick showed an emphasis on being more structured and organized on both sides of the ball and looking to win the battle of possession.

Anthony Davis was a focal point on offense, even in late game situations where the Lakers were often unable to drive the offense through him last season.

The All-Star big man finished the game with 36 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and one steal in 38 minutes. He scored 11 points in the final seven minutes to help the Lakers win for good.

With his late assist to Rui Hachimura, Davis was directly responsible for 13 of the Lakers' 18 points after re-entering the game with 7:09 left.

Hachimura played with a ferocity and aggressiveness that he didn't display consistently last season, finishing the game with 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting.
