Liam Neeson says he quit dating aged 72

  • Liam Neeson recently announced that he is done dating.
  • Neeson was married to Natasha Richardson until her death in 2009.
  • The actor hinted that he might be done with action roles too, despite making similar comments before.

Liam Neeson isn't interested in finding a new romantic partner.

In a new one Interview with People Magazinepublished on Wednesday, the 72-year-old Love Actually star was asked if he is currently dating. “No, in a word. “I’ve put all this behind me,” he said.

Neeson, who stars in the upcoming film Absolution, was previously married to fellow actress Natasha Richardson. The two were married from 1994 until Richardson's death in 2009 at age 45 following a head injury resulting from a skiing accident. They had two sons together: Micheál, now 29 and an actor, and Daniel, now 28 and founder of a tequila brand.

After Richardson's death, Neeson dated Freya St. Johnston, a UK-based public relations manager, for two years. The two reportedly split in 2012. Since then, Neeson hasn't publicly dated anyone, although he said back in 2016 that he was dating someone “incredibly famous” (that the actor had just joked with the journalist.)

In 2022, Neeson said in an interview on the Australian morning show “Sunrise” that he had “fallen in love” with a woman who was kidnapped while filming his film “Blacklight” in Melbourne.

“I loved Melbourne, I loved our Australian crew,” Neeson said. “Fantastic employees. Every department was great, but they were their own people.”

The “Taken” star continued, “They had a great sense of humor. I made a few friends and fell in love there, but she was taken.”

These days, Neeson said in his recent interview with People, the actor prefers spending time with his two sons and relaxing on his days off when he's not filming a movie (in addition to Absolution, he also stars in the upcoming Naked Gun). ). “Reboot alongside Pamela Anderson). Neeson revealed that he is an avid reader with a particular affinity for Nordic noir and crime novels by American crime writer Patricia Cornwell.

Elsewhere in his interview with People, Neeson hinted that he may have left something else behind: his action career. When asked if he plans to stop taking leading roles that require a lot of stunts, the actor admitted that he might be done “by the end of next year.”

The popular revenge thriller “Taken” was a box office hit that revitalized Neeson's career and ushered in his second role as an action star in his mid-50s when the first film hit theaters in 2008. But according to Neeson, he's just starting out and feels too old for these types of roles.

“I'm 72 – at some point it has to stop,” Neeson told People. “You can’t fool the audience.”

Then again, Neeson said something similar back in 2019, so don't count him out just yet.
