Lightning leads 2-0 over Predators, Stamkos return to Tampa: Live updates

The Nashville Predators face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday at Amalie Arena. It will certainly be an emotional return for striker Steven Stamkos.

Stamkos, who spent 16 seasons with the Lightning after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2008, signed a four-year contract with the Predators over the summer. This will be his first game against the Lightning and his first visit to Tampa as a member of the opposing team.

Nashville (3-5-0) enters the match on a three-game winning streak, having just beaten the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday. Tampa Bay (5-3-0) defeated the Washington Capitals 3-0 in their most recent win.

TIME TO STEP: Jonathan Marchessault says it's “time for me to move forward with the OT goal for the Predators.”

Lightning leads 2-0 over Predators with goals from Brayden Point and Mitchell Chaffee

After Stamkos was honored with a video tribute on the video board, Lightning forward Brayden Point gave the home team a 1-0 lead with a stunning goal.

Point collected the puck along the boards, carried it to Roman Josi and then spun around him to score.

Then, with just 37 seconds left in the first period, Point Mitchell found Chaffee on a stretch pass. Chaffee then sneaked past the Predators' defense and shot openly at Saros, allowing the Lightning to make it 2-0.

Quickly honoring Steven Stamkos with a tribute video, Stamkos shows his appreciation

During the game's first TV timeout, about seven minutes into the first period, fans in Amalie Arena were treated to a video tribute to Steven Stamkos.

This type of video is common for players when they return to their old team, but this moment carried more weight considering the impact Stamkos had in Tampa.

Stamkos watched the video play, then skated onto the ice and held up his stick to thank the fans.

Lightning fans hold signs welcoming Steven Stamkos to Tampa

As expected, Lightning fans were in their seats early to watch their favorite captain warm up.

Fans held signs reading “Tampa Bay Misses You, Stammer” and “Stamkos Thank For The Memories” as Stamkos skated for warm-ups at the Nashville end.

The Nashville Predators vs. Tampa Bay Lightning game will be televised exclusively on ESPN+, ESPN's subscription-based streaming service, with national streaming also available on Hulu.
