Live 2024 Pennsylvania election results

Voters in Pennsylvania head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their votes in a critical presidential election state that is also the site of one of the most contentious Senate races in the country.

The winner of the presidential contest will receive the state's 19 electoral votes. Polls close at 8:00 p.m. local time.

State significance

The importance of Pennsylvania in this election cannot be overstated, as both parties at times believe that victory in the state is essentially the deciding factor in the overall presidential election.

Pennsylvania, the anchor of the so-called Blue Wall — the three Rust Belt states that did not vote Republican between 1988 and 2016 — went for former President Donald Trump by more than 44,000 votes in 2016 before President Joe Biden took over in 2020 by more than 80,000 votes.

The Democrats' main base of support is in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the state's two urban centers, while Republicans have dominated in the rural areas in between. However, Vice President Kamala Harris had been campaigning in certain Republican-leaning areas to try to exploit the Republican advantage there.

Democratic Sen. Bob Casey is also running for a fourth term against Republican Dave McCormick in a race that Republicans view as a top chance as the GOP tries to win control of the Senate.

Counties are colored red or blue when the percentage of expected votes reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on past voting reporting patterns and expectations about how voting will occur this year.
