Local Candidates, Issues, Results North Jersey

Election Day in New Jersey is Tuesday, November 5th.

On the ballot across New Jersey this general election are:

  • Local competitions, including Board of Education elections.
  • Democratic and Republican candidates for president
  • Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senate
  • Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Congress in all 12 New Jersey congressional districts

Here's a look at our coverage of local races in northern New Jersey:

North Jersey local elections

A handful of municipalities and school boards will have referendum questions on the ballot. Click here to see if your ballot contains a question about the referendum.

Across North Jersey there will be county-level contests where voters elect commissioners, sheriffs, deputies and a registry.

In Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties, all county-level races are between Democrats and Republicans, including a repeat of the 2021 county sheriff race in Bergen County.

  • Morris County replacement: Democrat John Holly is running against Republican Heather Darling
  • Morris County Commissioners: Democrats Justin Strickland, Jonathan Sackett and William “Bud” Ravitz are running against Republicans Deborah Smith, John Krickus and Stephen Shaw.

Sussex County Commissioners: Democrat Jason Boehm, a successful primary candidate, faces Republicans Chris Carney and Alan Henderson.

  • Essex County Sheriff: Democrat Amir Jones is running against Republican Nicholas Pansini.
  • Essex County Register: Democrat Juan Rivera Jr. is running against Republican Jeffrey Polewka.

NorthJersey.com will publish results for contests statewide as well as in the following northern New Jersey counties: Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex and Sussex. Check back after the polls close on Tuesday, November 5th at 8:00 p.m.
